What to see

There are many beautiful things to see as you walk around the cathedral. A brief Architectural Guide can be purchased form the Welcome Desk to asist you.

In particular, there are five things you really should not to miss:

Angel Stone

This mysterious little stone is the oldest object in the building.

Misericords

These are the early sixteenth century wooden carvings underneath the Quire seats. They are some of the best in the world!

Musical Angels

In the middle of the Church: look up, there are carvings of magnificent fifteenth century angels playing musical instruments of the time.

Colourful Windows

The Cathedral was badly hit by a bomb in World War II, which destroyed all the old windows. The Fire Window in the Regiment Chapel records the destruction. It also had to be restored after the IRA bomb of 1996.

Outside

There are some splendid stone gargoyles and a golden Madonna.
