Investigating the Tudor Reformation PDF Print E-mail

This trail covers the history of the Church during the Mediaeval period. Through a range of activities pupils will learn about the Tudor Reformation and how the different Tudor monarchs shaped the religion of the time according to their beliefs.

Pupils will have the opportunity to:

  • Gain an historical overview of the church, and understand how mediaeval thinking about religion shaped the building that we see today

  • Dress in pre-Reformation style vestments and, in the mediaeval Quire stalls, learn to chant some of the Latin Mass

  • Remove their vestments and see how a post-Reformation priest would be attired. They will then learn to sing the same chant in English and will be encouraged to discuss the differences between the two activities

  • See for themselves the difference between the pre-Reformation Mass and the post-Reformation Service of Holy Communion.

  • The trail ends with pupils completing an activity to compare and contrast the differences and changes between what Catholics believed and what Protestants believed.
