Manchester Cathedral is a first class resource that brings learning to life; offering students the opportunity to explore the cultural and historical significance of the Cathedral, as well as giving them contact with a living Christian community. The Education Department welcomes a wide range of learners with different needs and learning styles. We aim to offer stimulating activities and educational experiences that interest and engage pupils so that they want to find out even more! A wide range of trails, workshops and experiential activities are available, which can be mainly RE-based, or planned to explore the Cathedral and the Christian faith across the curriculum. Teachers and pupils are welcomed into the cathedral as their classroom or place of learning for the duration of the visit, and sessions are planned carefully, with clear learning outcomes, based on the focus of the visit. All trails, workshops and activities can be adapted and tailored to an individual school's needs. A range of educational support materials are being developed that will be available for use in school prior to the visit, during the visit itself and later back in school to assist meaningful follow-up activity. Visits can last an hour, a half day, or a full day, with the provision of a room for lunch for small groups. A full day (10.00am until 2.30pm) is recommended in order to maximize the Cathedral experience for pupils and includes spending time in the Exhibition, a Trail and a Workshop. What they said …
