Cathedral Mission Weekend 17–19 October 2008

Over the weekend of 17 – 19 October this year we are planning a Mission Weekend at the Cathedral. It is entitled ‘Roots’ since the mission is planned with the Cathedral community and congregations in mind. This is a mission to ourselves when we shall have opportunities to socialise and have fellowship, pray together, and experience spiritual renewal. It will enable our numerous and diverse groups of people and congregations to get together and celebrate our ‘roots’ in Christ, in the historic life of the Cathedral, and our links with each other. It will be an opportunity to celebrate our connectedness in God and each other with a common mission in mind, ie. ‘to glorify God and enjoy him forever’ (Westminster Catechism). The entire weekend is about spiritual renewal and transformation. It is about reaffirming our belonging to the Body of Christ in this place. Canon Robin Gamble assures me that we will also have lots of fun over the entire weekend.

It will be a good opportunity for each of us to examine our lives and our relationship with God. Some of us may want to make a commitment to follow Christ for the first time, or it may be an opportunity to recommit our lives to Christ as a way of taking our faith a bit more seriously.A detailed programme will be available soon. However, I can inform you that a ‘Banquet in the Nave’ will be held on Friday 17th; A Prayer Garden will be our focus on afternoon and evening of Saturday 18th and all our services on Sunday 19th will have a mission theme and format, including music. We plan to have a ‘Bring and Share’ lunch on Sunday 19th.In the meanwhile please diarize these dates. And come prepared to have fun and have your heart warmed by God and each other at the same time!
