The Cathedral Choir is conducted by Christopher Stokes and consists of 6 gentlemen, many of whom are, or have been, singing students at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Currently there are 15 trebles (boys and girls) who study at Chethams School of Music, across the busy road from the Cathedral. This choir sings the Evensong services at 5.30 p.m. during the week (usually Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) and at 3.30 p.m. on Saturdays, and also the Eucharist at 10.30 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The Cathedral Voluntary ChoirThe Cathedral Voluntary Choir is conducted by Jeffrey Makinson and, since September 2006, has consisted of children and adults of both genders. The choir has performed on radio and television, and toured extensively in this country and abroad.
