JCP Volunteer Programme

JCP Volunteer Programme

The Volunteer and Employability Programme was launched on Thursday 26 April in the Nave of Manchester Cathedral. This is the first programme of its kind in the UK to run from a Cathedral – where employability and enterprise are the measures of success, alongside offering an amazing opportunity for local people to volunteer and connect with their heritage. We have brought in expertise and have worked closely with award winning volunteer programmes to develop a programme which is more progressive and will connect people to jobs in the city. Large and important employers in the city of Manchester such as the Manchester Arndale, Harvey Nichols, the Hilton and the Printworks have committed to guaranteed interviews and work placements and we will offer structured support to improve skills, employment and enterprise prospects for all volunteers with employability support from a wide range of partners such as Manchester College and The Broughton Trust.

Review of the Ian Anderson concert

Review of the Ian Anderson concert

Rachel Mann wrote a review of the Ian Anderson concert which took place at Manchester Cathedral in December 2011, for the Classic Rock Magazine.

Rachel wrote:
As a hardened gig goer you think you’ve seen everything: spinning drum kits, explosions worthy of the Western Front and Keith Emerson stabbing keyboard-based things. Well, you ain’t seen nothing until you’ve witnessed a bishop – dressed in a white frock and carrying a shepherd’s crook –
shuffling awkwardly on stage as a band crank into Jethro Tull’s Locomotive Breath. For curiosity value alone this could only be topped by the Pope arriving through the roof
on a jet pack.

Cathedral market stall closes its shutters after almost five weeks of Christmas trading

On Wednesday 21 December the Cathedral market stall closed its shutters after almost five weeks of Christmas trading.

Warm thanks must go to all the volunteers who gave their time so willingly and for all those who stopped by, either to make a purchase or for a quick chat.

Congratulations to Tim Batty who won the Christmas hamper.

See you again next year!
