Remembering Srebrenica Civic Remembrance Service

Date: Thursday 12 July 2018 (7.30pm-9pm)

Civic Remembrance Service to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica.

The theme for 2018 is "Acts of Courage," when we commemorate genocide, we usually focus on the very darkest aspects of human nature. We ask ourselves why. Why do people hate? Why do people rape? Why do people kill? We should also ask: How do people survive? How do people hold hope? How do people resist?

These questions are critical to the prevention of future genocides. Acts of courage in times of war help us to understand how communities may resist regimes that seek to spread fear and division. They also sow the seeds of possibility for peace and reconciliation.
