Dig the City

Date: 24 July 2012 - 29 July 2012 (During Cathedral opening hours)

A celebration of music and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee depicted in floral art in the
Cathedral from 9.30am to 5.30pm last entry 1 hour before closure).

Within the Cathedral there will be around 100 floral exhibits, each interpreting a piece of music from the Renaissance period through to the present day and covering Musicals & Film, Pop, Rock, Ethnic; culminating in a section dedicated to the 'Music of Manchester'. Floral installations in Manchester Arndale and the National Football Museum will be themed appropriately for each of these buildings. It is our intention that this event will rival some of the major flower festivals in the UK and become a national urban flower festival for Manchester and the UK. We are also delighted that in 2013 the Royal Horticultural Society has also committed to join the City in this event with major urban flower displays throughout the city centre.

The flower festival will run from 24 to 29 July 2012. We envisage tens of thousands of visitors coming to the City, some for the first time, to view this wonderful spectacle of colour and interpretation.
