Manchester Children's Choir

Date: Saturday 14 September 2019 (10am to 11am)

Manchester Children's Choir meets on every Saturday (during term time) from 10am to 11am.

In the Choir, children learn and have fun through singing and musicianship games. The children sing a wide variety of songs and play music games to encourage social interaction, physical co-ordination and self-confidence. They learn to pitch simple melodies in their heads, and grasp basic pulse and rhythm. We aim to have one concert per term to show family and friends what we have been learning.

Manchester Children’s Choir was founded in 1920s by composer Sir Hamilton Harty, who had the aim to make choral music and singing accessible to all children of Manchester and Salford, regardless of ability or background. The original Manchester Children’s Choir was famous for their recording of Purcell’s Nymphs and Shepherds with the Hallé Orchestra which sold over one million copies, however the choir soon disbanded after the outbreak of World War II.
