Get Involved

Manchester Cathedral has several opportunities for you to be able to get involved with music. We have recently launched a new Children’s Choir for all ages and abilities. Through this, children will have the chance to develop their musical abilities and for some children, the chance to progress into the Cathedral Choir. If your son or daughter has a good ear for music or just simply enjoys singing, this is the perfect opportunity for them to get involved.

Life as a chorister is a great opportunity, highly rewarding and lots of fun. It teaches young boys and girls how to work with others in a team in pursuit of excellence. Boys and girls will also gain self-confidence and a concept of the Cathedral’s musical heritage.

Each year we offer a number of choristerships to girls or boys aged between 8 and 10. All our choristers attend Chetham’s School of Music and as such receive an excellent musical and general education there, in addition to the first-class musical training from the Cathedral’s staff. Choristers attend rehearsals in the Cathedral each day and sing for the weekly round of services and other special events such as live radio broadcasts, CD recordings and touring within the UK, Europe and beyond.

Potential Choristers do not need any prior experience to audition for the Choir. We are looking for children who enjoy singing, being part of a close-knit team and who, with their parents, will commit to a demanding but immensely rewarding schedule.

Auditions are held throughout the year and applications are welcomed from anyone between the ages of 8 and 10. For an informal chat, to find out more or to arrange a preliminary informal audition, please contact the Organist and Master of the Choristers, Christopher Stokes, or download our brochure, where you will also find contact details regarding further enquiries.

Opportunities are always available for singers to join our list of deputy Lay Clerks too.
