Our new 'Poet In Residence'

Manchester Cathedral aspires to be the British ‘poetry cathedral'. Not only do we already we host the annual Manchester Cathedral International Religious Poetry Competition. But now, for the first time, we also have our own ‘poet in residence'.

Rachel Mann is both poet and priest: Priest-in-charge of St. Nicholas', Burnage. Prior to ordination she worked as a civil servant and as Teaching Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Lancaster University. She writes, ‘I have loved, written, and studied poetry for many years, and my poetry has been published in magazines, anthologies and newsprint. Whilst I also love fiction and academic writing, the unique thrill and power of poetry for me lies in its capacity to draw us deeper into life's mysteries and to take us to a place of encounter with the living God'.

Rachel will occupy the role for the next three years, and will shape it in her own creative way.
