The Archbishop of Canterbury opens the National Cathedrals Conference

Published: 18 September 2018

On Monday 17 September, delegates from cathedrals around the country and beyond arrived at Manchester Cathedral for the first day of the National Cathedral Conference: Sacred Space.

The Archbishop of Canterbury opened the conference via video link saying: "You must have fun in cathedrals. God has given them as places of celebration and joy and good news. You're good news for your community, you're good news for the church, you're places that do exciting, imaginative things."

This is the first time that cathedral clergy, lay staff and chapter and council members have all gathered under one roof to discuss and facilitate development of a strategic vision for the future direction of cathedrals through four days of keynote speakers, spiritual leaders and workshops.

The conference, organised by the Association of English Cathedrals, will take place from Monday 17 September to Thursday 20 and will be based in Manchester Cathedral.
