Rock and (ca)roll at Manchester Cathedral
Published: 23 December 2011
Hundreds of music enthusiasts packed Manchester Cathedral on Monday night to enjoy an evening with Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson and his band. They were treated to a festive celebration that combined classic rock, Christmas music given the “Tull” treatment, readings and prayers. This was the first time that the cathedral has hosted a concert of this type, where every one of the 950-strong audience was seated. This presented a challenge to the organisers as not everyone had a clear view of the stage. However, Ian Anderson offset this with his warmth and humour, coming down off the stage at certain points and playing right in the heart of the audience. His Christmas spirit was further in evidence with the announcement that all profits from the concert will be donated to Manchester Cathedral Development Fund.
