St John Passion
Published: 10 January 2012
Tickets are now available for St John Passion on Sunday 25 March at 7.30pm. This concert will be conducted by Christopher Stokes and performed by Manchester Cathedral Choir and Manchester Baroque.
The St John Passion (in German: Johannes-Passion), is a sacred oratorio of Johann Sebastian Bach. During the first winter that Bach was responsible for church music at the St. Thomas Church, Leipzig and the St. Nicholas Church, he composed the St John Passion for the Good Friday Vespers service of 1724. The St John Passion is a dramatic representation of the Passion, as told in the Gospel of John, constructed of dramatically presented recitatives and choruses, commented by reflective chorales and arias, framed by large opening and closing choruses. It will be performed by Manchester Cathedral Choir and Manchester Baroque.
Tickets are now available, please download the flyer for more information.
