Tickets on sale for Messiah (G. F. Handel)

Saturday 9 December 2017 (7pm to 9.30pm)

A truly traditional Christmas treat, Manchester Baroque presents Messiah by G. F. Handel on Saturday 9 December 2017. Directed by Christopher Stokes, the performance will feature Manchester Cathedral Choir and the University of Manchester Baroque Orchestra, as well as the new Stoller Organ and Nicola Howard (Soprano). The performance will be conducted by Cathedral Sub-Organist, Geoffrey Woollatt, with Christopher Stokes on the Organ.

Entry to the Cathedral will be via the east door which is located opposite the Corn Exchange.

All services will take place as usual.

The Dedication and Blessing of the Stoller Organ with Inaugural Recital given by Thomas Trotter

During 2016 Manchester Cathedral had a new organ built, generously sponsored by the Stoller Charitable Trust. The total cost was approximately £2.6m. The Stoller Organ will be at the centre of Cathedral music and in use virtually every day of the year for services, concerts, recitals, recordings and teaching.

A new contemporary art collection titled ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’ by the artist Cristina Rodrigues will reside at the Manchester Cathedral. The official dedication ceremony will take place at a service of Holy Eucharist on Sunday 17 September 2017, at 10.30am.

The winner of Capture the Cathedral: The People’s Choice 2017 is…..

The annual Capture the Cathedral photography competition returned this year for its fifth year with almost 300 photographs of our beautiful historic building submitted.

In August, we announced that Belinda Hastie had won the competition with her image Holy Smoke. Belinda’s photograph, along with a selection of entries was exhibited in Manchester Cathedral throughout the month of August and during this time members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite photo. This year over 1800 votes were cast by visitors to Manchester Cathedral and via our Facebook page.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the Capture the Cathedral People’s Choice 2017 is ‘Faith’ by May Fong Li.
