For the past five years, Manchester Cathedral has organised a photography competition, Capture the Cathedral. Every year the standard gets better and better as entrants seek to impress the judges with images of this beautiful historic building. This year was no different; almost 300 images were submitted making the judge’s decision a difficult one.

Manchester Cathedral and Hanging Ditch

We have set aside a couple of cosy armchairs and a selection of books in the Cathedral Visitor Centre for anyone seeking a bit of peace and quiet away from the madding crowds of the city centre. There will also be seating set aside, (services and events permitting), in the Cathedral itself and its appropriately named Chapter House.

Funeral of Saffie Rose Roussos

The funeral of Saffie Rose Roussos will take place at Manchester Cathedral at 1.45pm.

Saffie’s family have invited the public of Manchester to gather at and around the cathedral on the day and are asking people to wear colourful clothing. Those wishing to bring flowers are asked to bring a single rose, after their daughter’s middle name.

Donations can be made to the Acute Intensive Care Unit (AICU) at Wythenshawe Hospital.

Manchester Cathedral is committed to promoting reading in Manchester and we are delighted to be part of the Read Manchester BookBench Project.

Book-shaped benches have been decorated by schools and community groups with designs inspired by books and reading. This summer, they will be displayed in various venues across the city.

On the afternoon of Saturday 27 May, fourteen church flower arrangers from across the Diocese met at Manchester Cathedral for our first joint meeting. We began with tea and homemade cake; made new friends; and shared our love for, and experiences of, flower arranging in our different churches.

A New Suite of Liturgical Furniture

A New Suite of Liturgical Furniture

Easter Sunday witnessed the consecration of the new suite of liturgical furniture to support the installation of the Stoller Organ by The Right Reverend Mark Ashcroft, Bishop of Bolton. The furniture at a cost of just over £200,000 was created by Mike Mcintosh the head designer at Treske from Thirsk in North Yorkshire, in consultation with Martyn Coppin, Chair of the Fabric Advisory Committee and John Prichard, Cathedral Architect.
