Prayers for the children killed in Peshawar and those killed in Sydney

A special prayer station has been set up in Manchester Cathedral to remember the children killed by terrorists in Pakistan and for those killed in Sydney this past week.

We mourn with all the families and loved ones who grieve these senseless deaths and pray for God's comfort and strength at this time of terrible tragedy and sadness. As we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ we remember all who are unable to celebrate because of these senseless killings. May God's peace and love continue to spread around God's world during this holy season and always. The people of Greater Manchester will continue to strive for peace and unity in our city and wider world.

Please come in for a time to light a candle and pray for an end to such atrocities and for those who are mourning.

Official Manchester Cathedral Christmas card

Official Manchester Cathedral Christmas card

The competition to design the official Christmas card for 2014 has now closed. The Dean has chosen a design featuring an image of the icon from our Lady Chapel.

The winning design was submitted by Kevin Gilbo who clearly knows how best to capture the essence of the cathedral as the Dean selected his image without knowing that Kevin was also the winner of this yearís photography competition!

The Dean said:
"The icon of Madonna and Child in the Lady Chapel is very moving and poignant as it is set in a relatively dark chapel. The dark setting provides an amazing backdrop for the life and hope that we find in god. Congratulations to our winner, Kevin Gilbo".

We hope to run the competition again next year, look out for details in the New Year.
