Members of the Cathedral staff are sleeping outside the Cathedral to help raise money for the Booth Centre. The Booth Centre is a day centre that offers advice, activities and support to homeless people in Manchester.

Manchester Cathedral awarded £225,000 from the First World War centenary cathedral repairs fund

Manchester Cathedral welcomes todayís announcement by Culture Secretary Sajid Javid of a £225,000 grant being awarded for replacing worn out lead roofing to our South Quire Aisle, Jesus Chapel and Fraser Chapel.

The money comes from the government-sponsored First World War centenary cathedral repairs fund that has been set up to support vital repairs to some of Englandís most important historic buildings.

Manchester Cathedral Choir will be joining with The Secret Orchestra to perform Handelís Messiah in Manchester Cathedral on Saturday 13 December at 7pm, under the direction of Christopher Stokes. The magical combination of the Cathedral Choir and some of the countyís top orchestral players, performing in the atmospheric setting of the Cathedral, makes for a truly traditional Christmas treat.

Alan Henning, a local man from Salford was taken by gunmen after joining a group of Muslim friends on an aid convoy to Syria to deliver medical equipment.

It was reported on Friday 3 October that Alan had been killed by his captors

We pray for him and for his family and friends to the loving God who is close to the broken hearted.
