St George's Day Quarter Peal Attempt

St George is one of our patron saints and to celebrate St George's Day, the Cathedral bell ringers attempted a quarter peal attempt. A quarter peal on the ten Cathedral bells is in the region on 1260 changes and should take between 50 to 60 minutes depending on the speed of the ringing. Five of our own ringers took part, five others came from as far away as Leeds in one direction and Chester in the other.

Well done to the ringers who successfully completed the quarter peal.

Be a part of it – sponsor a pipe!

Every generation has a chance to leave its mark on our nation’s great buildings. By sponsoring a pipe today, you will help secure a 600-year tradition of music, help develop the Cathedral building and enhance the use of its space. You can give to the organ project by sponsoring a pipe.

Maundy Thursday Shoe Shine

Maundy Thursday Shoe Shine

The Cathedral Clergy shined the shoes of shoppers in Manchester Arndale on Maundy Thursday. The shoe shine idea has a serious message aiming to emulate Jesus washing the feet of his followers 2000 years ago and the subsequent tradition of the clergy washing parishioners feet on the Thursday before Easter for centuries.

Thank you to Manchester Arndale and everyone who took part.
