First Prize £450 and Manchester Cathedral Poet of the Year 2017

Second Prize: £250 Third Prize: £150

Winners and seven runners-up will be invited to read their poetry
at the Manchester Literature Festival event in October.

Are there piles of lovely but unwanted pairs of socks lingering under your pile of Christmas presents or spilling out of your sock drawer? Manchester Cathedral can find a good home for any pairs of new, warm socks that people would like to donate or buy to support the Booth Centre in looking after those who find themselves homeless at the turn of the New Year.

This means there are children going to bed without a hot meal in a house without central heating. It also means that 150,000 children in our city will not have a present to open on Christmas Day.

£500,000 grant for Manchester Cathedral from the First World War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund

The final phase of a two year grants programme to English cathedrals for urgent repairs has been announced. Grants totalling £5,423,000 have been awarded to 24 Church of England and Catholic cathedrals for repairs including to stained glass windows, stone pinnacles, and roofs as well as drainage and lighting. Manchester Cathedral has been awarded £500,000 for emergency repair works needed to its tower.
