Watch Cristina Rodrigues working on new altar frontals

Here is a short video of Portuguese artist, Cristina Rodrigues preparing an art installation for Manchester Cathedral that will be inaugurated in the autumn of 2017.

Cristina’s project involves creating seven textile works for four of Manchester Cathedral’s altars and it is the product of a partnership with the Municipality of Castelo Branco, a town in the interior central area of Portugal, home to the sumptuous and noblest of Portuguese embroideries, known as the Castelo Branco Embroidery.

The Annual Reports for 2016/2017 are now available for download in readiness for the AGM & Easter Vestry meeting on Sunday 7 May 2017. To download and read the reports, click here.

Hard copies will be available at back of Church from Sunday 29 April and then from the Administration Office, Tuesday to Friday, between 8.30am and 4.30pm.

The Stoller Organ to be played for the first time on Easter Day

There has been an organ in Manchester Cathedral since at least the 1680s with different instruments being rebuilt, modified and replaced over time. The old organ was badly damaged when a bomb exploded on the north east side of the Cathedral in 1940, and stop-gap measures were taken to repair the instrument, re-using old pipework. This organ lasted 75 years.

Decorate a Duck this Lent

Decorate a Duck this Lent

The 8th Annual Manchester Duck Race returns this year and is set to be the biggest and best duck race yet!

From Monday 20 March until Friday 7 April, visitors to Manchester Cathedral are invited to decorate a duck and make a £1 donation to Brainwave. All the ducks decorated will be entered into the race on Good Friday with the chance to win a host of great prizes just in time for Easter.

How Awesome Is This Place

Manchester Cathedral has been centre stage in its city’s history for nearly 600 years. In 1421 Henry V signed a royal charter granting permission for a collegiate church to be built.There are medieval quires and ancient archives, bees on the roof and kangaroos carved on thrones, choristers running to practice and artists drawing in aisles. Classical music concerts served with coffee and wines fairs set to jazz.
