28 June 2016

On Friday 1 July, Manchester will host a special event to mark the lives lost and changed forever by the Battle of the Somme, which began on July 1, 1916 and continued for 141 days.

As part of this event, a service of commemoration will take place at Manchester Cathedral at 3pm. Entry to the service is by ticket only.

Manchester Cathedral will be closed to visitors whilst we prepare for the service.

Thursday 30 June
The building will close to the public at 1pm. Escorted access will be granted for worshippers attending Holy Communion at 1.10pm and Evening Prayer at 4.30pm.

Friday 1 July
The building will be closed to the public.

Due to the security measures in place, the Cathedral clergy will say Morning Prayer, Holy Communion and Evening Prayer on behalf of the Cathedral community. Our regular congregation are asked to offer prayers at home.
